Diversity + Richness
Diversity and Richness features artwork by artists from Sawyer Yards with connections to Latin American culture in conjunction with LAN! Curated by Rosa Ana Orlando.
This exhibition explores the rich diversity found in the work produced by artists connected to Latin American culture exploring three main themes; The Real, The Magic, and The Abstract.
LAN!, a signature event of the Inter-University for Latino Research consortium and hosted by the University of Houston Center for Mexican American Studies, explores and celebrates Latino/a/x and Latin American visual artists in the United States while advancing awareness, education, scholarship, and knowledge. In 2019, Houston will serve as the fifth US city to host such an effort that targets both local and national audiences. Participation in LAN! is a huge opportunity for Sawyer Yards. This initiative is supported by the City of Houston, University of Houston, the Smithsonian Institute, and other major arts institutions in the city.
This four-month citywide celebration of neighborhoods, museums, and galleries is an outgrowth of partnerships with local arts organizations and artists present the activities and practices of local Latino arts workers through public programming, exhibitions, installations, and curatorial presentations. All of which will be available online at www.iuplr.org. The events will be promoted via social media and other marketing materials by Spring of Latino Art! (SOLA!).
